NYPD cracking down on illegal pedicabs, vendors in Midtown – CBS News

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has launched “Operation Front Door,” targeting issues affecting tourism and workers in Midtown Manhattan. During the operation, officers confiscated over two dozen illegal pedicabs that were unlicensed, equipped with motors and speakers, and often misled customers with deceptive pricing. Some pedicabs charged $8.99 per minute per person, leading to unexpectedly high costs for tourists. Additionally, police targeted illegal vendors in Times Square, where businesses have complained about customers being harassed. The operation involves multiple city departments, with Mayor Eric Adams emphasizing the importance of tourism for the city’s economy.
