The NYPD’s “Operation Front Door” is targeting quality-of-life crimes in Midtown Manhattan, specifically focusing on illegal pedicabs and street vendors selling counterfeit goods. The operation aims to clean up Times Square and protect tourists from being harassed or deceived. Officers confiscated 24 pedicabs that were unlicensed and violated regulations, and three arrests were made. While this effort addresses tourism-related issues, the NYPD is also working on broader problems in other neighborhoods, such as open-air drug markets and homelessness. Mayor Eric Adams emphasized the importance of maintaining the city’s image and supporting its tourism economy.
